Aguka Parent Empowerment Program

Aguka (Growth and Progress)
The Aguka Parent Empowerment Program is one of Shine Again Initiative’s core pillars, alongside the Kura Neza Child Program. It was established to address the pressing realities faced by underprivileged families particularly women and single mothers who struggle to provide basic needs such as food, shelter, medicine, and education for their children. Many of these families also face conflicts, separations, and mental health challenges that negatively affect both parental well-being and children’s growth.

Objectives:

• Strengthen parental financial literacy and economic empowerment through small saving groups and income-generating activities.
• Enhance child care leadership by equipping parents with skills to nurture, guide, and protect their children.
• Promote the well-being of families through psychosocial support, shared experiences, and community bonding.
• Contribute to children’s school retention, attendance, hygiene, feeding, and confidence, ensuring that every child has a brighter future.

Key Activities

1. Small Saving Groups – Parents, organized in groups of not more than 30 participants, save small amounts of money regularly. This strengthens resilience and creates capital for starting small businesses to generate daily income.
2. Experience Sharing and Healing Sessions – Parents openly discuss child care challenges, family struggles, and solutions. These sessions help overcome trauma, reduce isolation, and foster mutual support.
