Background:
Child care remains a pressing challenge in Rwanda. Research shows that less than 20% of children access quality early childhood services, while many spend most of their time at home under the care of untrained or unmonitored maids. Parents are often busy with work and responsibilities, yet struggle to find trustworthy and skilled caregivers. This situation leads to high risks: poor academic support, exposure to bad habits, depression, neglect, and sometimes abuse when there is no follow-up. The rise of technology has also made children more vulnerable to harmful content, especially without proper monitoring at home.
To address these issues, Shine Again Initiative has designed a Child and Family Care Consultant Program that brings solutions directly to parents and young people. We equip house consultants (maids) with professional skills that go far beyond basic childcare. Our training includes child development, academic support, nutrition, safeguarding, communication, leadership, and positive discipline. Each consultant is disciplined, educated, and monitored to ensure the highest standards of safety and care. With this system, parents no longer have to worry about who is looking after their children. We provide trained and accountable caregivers who are also able to nurture children’s academic performance and overall growth.
At the same time, we support parents themselves by offering training in child care, post-parenting, communication, and leadership. This helps families build a strong partnership with the consultants at home, ensuring that children’s needs are met even when parents are away. Our model creates a reliable “third partner” in raising children: parents, trained house consultants, and Shine Again Initiative monitoring all working together to protect and empower the child.
We now call on parents to recruit their household maids and caregivers through Shine Again Initiative, where they are carefully trained, certified, and supervised. This guarantees not only peace of mind but also real support in the child’s academic journey, social well-being, and moral growth.
We also call on young graduates especially those in education, psychology, social work, nutrition, or related fields who are looking for meaningful employment to apply for our training.
