The Shine Again Exploration Programme (SAEP) is an innovative social enterprise of Shine Again Initiative that combines experiential learning, responsible tourism, cultural exploration and community impact.

SAEP was created from the belief that exploring Rwanda can be more than a leisure experience. It can be an opportunity to learn, connect with communities and contribute to positive social change.

Through carefully designed exploration experiences, SAEP connects schools, families, young people, visitors and communities with Rwanda’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and educational opportunities.

From Exploration to Impact

At the heart of SAEP is a simple model:

Participants pay for an experience and receive a professionally organized exploration journey, while a portion of the income generated contributes to the work of Shine Again Initiative.

This means that every exploration has the potential to create a wider social impact.

An Income-Generating Model for Social Impact

SAEP is designed as a sustainable income-generating activity that helps Shine Again Initiative diversify its funding beyond grants and donations.

Revenue generated through exploration packages can contribute to supporting the implementation and sustainability of Shine Again’s programmes, including:

Kura Neza – supporting vulnerable children to return to school and remain engaged in education.
Aguka – strengthening families through savings, financial literacy, livelihood development and family support.
Inkuru y’Ubushuti – creating opportunities for children and parents to connect, share, discover talents and celebrate culture.
Educational and digital literacy activities for children and young people.
Learning materials and essential support for vulnerable children.
Community and family engagement activities.

Through this model, tourism becomes more than a source of income—it becomes a vehicle for social investment.

The current SAEP model includes local walks, regional experiences and premium safari options, with packages designed to include a contribution toward community impact initiatives.

Our vision is to build SAEP into a sustainable social enterprise that generates reliable income for Shine Again Initiative while promoting responsible tourism, experiential learning and community development across Rwanda.

By 2029, SAEP aims to expand its network of destinations, schools, tourism partners, local guides and communities while increasing the contribution it makes toward Shine Again Initiative’s programmes.
